Both happen because the body can't cool itself and both are dangerous heat illnesses, especially heat stroke. Local Athletes Score Big

The Progress Center was filled with smiling faces upon the return of their Special Olympic team from the 44th annual Special Olympics Maine Winter Games held recently at Sugarloaf. Approximately 500 athletes from 80 communities across the state competed at Sugarloaf in the Maine Special Olympics Winter Games.

Competing in snow shoeing, Nordic and alpine skiing, the six member team brought home an impressive 5 gold medals, 3 silver medals,1 bronze medal as well as numerous ribbons. The Progress Center team is coached by Sheli Derosier, Lisa Durgin and Theresa Douglas.

The team wishes to thank their coaches, family, friends, as well as the community for their support and the generosity shown at their fundraising events.
