Sunday River celebrates its closing day and Easter Sunday with free skiing and riding, a kid’s egg hunt, and a mountaintop sunrise service

Newry, Maine (April 18, 2011)—On Sunday, April 24, Sunday River Ski Resort invites skiers and riders, as well as their friends and family, to celebrate the Easter holiday resort-style, starting with a sunrise service at 7 a.m. followed by a children’s Easter Egg Hunt starting at 9 a.m.

As luck would have it, Easter Sunday also coincides with the resort’s last day of the season and as a result, Sunday River will be offering free skiing and riding all day long.

“It’s a great way to end the season,” Dana Bullen, Resort President for Sunday River, says. “We started six months ago and are celebrating another great season and closing day with free skiing and riding.

Newry, Maine (March 31, 2011) – Sunday River announced today that, weather permitting, the resort will plan to close for the winter season following the last day of skiing and riding scheduled for Sunday, April 24, 2011.
Boasting New England’s most powerful snowmaking system, Sunday River was the first ski area in the country to open for the 2010/2011 winter season back on October 24, 2010. This April 24, 2011 closing date will mark the resort’s second year in a row of a six-month long operating milestone and the longest ski season on the East Coast.
In addition to nearly 100 days of snowmaking, Sunday River has also received significant natural snowfall.

Presented in celebration of Women's History Month, this talk will be given by Dr. Stanley R. Howe, BHS Associate Director and Director of Education and Research.

Margaret Chase Smith (1897-1995) was a Republican Senator from Maine, and one of the most successful politicians in Maine history.  She was the first woman to be elected to both the U.S. House and Senate, and the first woman from Maine to serve in either.  She was also the first woman to have her name placed in nomination for the U.S.

NEWRY, ME (March 15, 2011) – Sugarloaf, Sunday River, and Loon Mountain announced pricing today for the popular New England Pass and the College New England Pass, good for skiing and riding at all three resorts during the 2011/2012 season.
This year’s pass, which is now available for purchase online and at each resort during the annual spring sale period, features a new and improved payment plan for guests who purchase their passes before the April 30 deadline.
With the new payment plan, guests can pay just $50 at the time of purchase to lock-in the spring-sale pricing, and then complete the purchase in four equal, automatic installments on June 1, July 1, August, 1, and September 1.

The Mahoosuc Land Trust Local Knowledge Series 2010-2011 continues on Friday, March 18th, 7PM at the Rumford Library Community Room.  David Yates of the Biodiversity Research Institute will talk about bat hibernation, basic bat biology and conservation.  Did you know that 2 of the 3 bat caves in Maine are located near Mahoosuc Land Trust conservation land in Rumford?  Open to the public and free of charge.  Donations welcomed.
