Woman dead in Peru, state police rule death 'suspicious'

PERU, Maine

(NEWS CENTER) – Maine State Police say 57-year-old Paula Nuttall was found dead inside a residence on Main Street in Puru Saturday morning. Maine State Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland says the death is considered 'suspicious.'

Officials add that a man, related somehow to Nuttall, was taken from the scene and is being treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say he is not a suspect at this time but he is being interviewed.

McCausland says Maine State Police detectives are on scene, but that they believe no one else was involved in the "incident."

McCausland said Nuttall lived at the residence with four other family members with only the one male being injured.

Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. passes

JAY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – The Jay Police Department says Chief Larry White Sr. has died.

The Jay Police Department Facebook page posted a statement that read;

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our courageous leader, Chief Larry White Sr. He fought a hard battle against an evil cancer with countless people standing behind him.

Chief White will be missed by many. He was a great leader in the department and dedicated his life to serving the people of the community.

As an officer who has served under Chief White for the past 8 years, I can undoubtedly say that he greatly influenced who I am today, not only as a police officer, but as a person.

Rest easy Chief, we've got it from here."

Officials say White has been on leave since February battling stage 3 pancreatic cancer.

Man charged with robbing Bridgton pharmacist

BRIDGTON, Maine (AP) -- A Gardiner man has been charged with robbing a Bridgton pharmacy last year.

Robert Richard was taken into custody Thursday on a warrant issued after he was indicted Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland on a charge of interference with commerce by robbery.

The 26-year-old Richard pleaded not guilty in a court appearance before Magistrate Judge John Rich III. The defendant was ordered detained while the case is pending.

Authorities say Richard held up a Rite Aid store in Bridgton on Nov. 28.

The indictment says Richard threatened violence to an employee before making off with prescription painkillers.

Woman killed in Bethel three car accident

BETHEL, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – Oxford County Sheriff's Department says Route 2 in Bethel was closed for a few hours after a woman was killed in a serious car crash Sunday afternoon.

Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant says his department responded to a three vehicle accident at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Gallant said along with the fatality, two other people were hurt with non-life threatening injuries. Gallant said the two injured were transported to separate area hospitals.

Route 2 was closed while the crash was reconstructed.

A name won't be released until the family is notified.

53-year-old Woodstock woman found alive after missing since Wednesday.

BRYANT POND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – The Oxford County Sheriff's Office said 53-year-old Kathleen Zurzolo was found alive but severely dehydrated Sunday afternoon by a neighbor.

A neighbor found Zursolo near 203 Fuller Hill Rd. around 10 a.m. Sunday. Her husband originally reported missing Wednesday.

Oxford County Sheriffs said no organized searches took place after Wednesday evening.

Zurzolo was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway for severe dehydration and other "injuries." Sheriffs would not elaborate on the severity of the other injuries.

Bridgton man dies during NH mountain climb

THOMPSON AND MESERVE'S PURCHASE, N.H. (AP) - Authorities say a Maine hiker has died after suffering a medical emergency while climbing New Hampshire's Mount Jefferson.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says 63-year-old Gregory Larson was stricken Friday afternoon near the summit of the 5,712-foot mountain. His companions performed CPR while rescue hikers and a hospital helicopter were dispatched to help.

Officials say the helicopter was unable to land on the difficult, steep terrain but a National Guard helicopter was able to hoist the Bridgton, Maine man off the mountain. The wildlife department says Larson died during the rescue effort.

Conservation Officer Sergeant Mark Ober said the efforts taken by Larson's companions and rescuers on foot and by air were commendable.

School bus goes off the road in Bridgton

BRIDGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Cumberland County dispatch tells NEWS CENTER a school bus has gone off the road into the woods in the town of Bridgton on Harrison Road.

Dispatch says there were children on the bus, but there are no serious injuries.

The accident happened at the intersection with Blake Lane. Harrison Road is also known as route 117. The road is down to one lane and traffic is an issue.
