Chu Joins Progress Center

Kristin Benedix, Executive Director of The Progress Center, is pleased to announce that Ren Chu has joined the mid-management team as Manager of Employment and Community Services.

According to Nancy Kitchin, Director of Community Services, Ren brings a varied and extensive history of dedication to supporting cognitively challenged individuals.  Ren graduated from Husson University with a BS in Clinical Psychology.  His background in mental health includes homeless shelters, psychiatric hospitals, group homes, mental health agencies and schools.

In a recent letter parents and guardians, Ren stated, “I am highly delighted to serve your community and The Progress Center. I believe that all people given the proper resources can be successful. It will not happen overnight, but is achievable. Cognitively challenged consumers are their own experts on their needs. We can only facilitate and motivate them. I know that, if we make a positive change in a person’s life, no matter how small, we have made a difference. This is one of the most rewarding aspects of this field and wish to produce many more.”

A resident of Mexico, Ren enjoys playing the piano, computers, biking and playing with his two daughters in his spare time.

The Progress Center is a social service agency that supports approximately 231 individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities in 49 communities within 4 Maine counties.
