A New Year, a litany of excuses, and Salt

A New Year, a litany of excuses, and Salt

Hey folks, we can relax.  The Mayan Apocalypse did not materialize, and we didn't go over that Fiscal Cliff.  All is well.

Time to set some New Year's resolutions!

I hate to set diet / exercise resolutions.  Mostly because I hate to diet or exercise.  Well, I like to ski (and it's ski season, baby!) so I guess that counts as exercise, right? Because after skiing all day last Saturday, wow, I felt some muscles I didn't know I had.  And as far as diet?  I guess I can go with eating more fruits / vegetables and drinking more water.  There.  Done.

But I HAVE set my GoodReads 2013 Challenge!

2012 - The Year the World Did NOT End! Well, maybe it did musically....

In my opinion, not the best year for music.  Yes, there were some stellar albums released this year, but all seemed to be buried beneath all the auto-tune crap that plagued our radios, tvs and iPods.  It was the return of the boy bands and in Justin Bieber's case, he just released music that sounded just like Nsync.  Click HERE to read more.

Movies: "Django Unchained"

Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” starts out wonderfully but devolves into a hot, bloody mess.

As we all know, Tarantino loves genre movies and this one is his personal mash-up of spaghetti westerns and blaxploitation films, set in Texas and Mississippi shortly before the Civil War.   Django (Jamie Foxx) is a slave, separated from his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) after they tried to escape from a plantation.

Movies: "Jack Reacher"

Movies: "Jack Reacher"

The thing millions of readers of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels all know is that this almost-mythical American drifter and crime stopper is a big guy, 6 foot five inches tall and built like a missile silo.  The thing most moviegoers know about Tom Cruise is he’s not so much.  But it took Cruise to get this first Reacher movie made:  he not only stars in it, but produced it as well.  So give him credit for that.

The Living Nativity

The Living Nativity

Sunday, December 23, 2012A live re-enactment of the nativity using real people and live animals is very inspiring! This event is held outside every year on the Bethel village common.

Dress warmly and come to the Bethel town common on Sunday, December 23rd, at 5:00pm.

View this this scene performed by local people...and live animals. A Bethel tradition -- so sweet. Carols will be sung too and you may join in.

Which local family will play Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus this year? Photo courtesy of The Bethel Citizen.
