Norway Arts Festival reveals 2011 focus figure!

The Norway Arts Festival is pleased to announce this year’s focus figure, “Tony Montanaro” (1927-2002), internationally acclaimed mime artist, director, and teacher. Montanaro a world class performer founded the Celebration Barn Theater in 1972, making South Paris the location for performers around the world to refine their skills in mime, storytelling, acting, physical comedy, and puppetry. The Celebration Barn Theater will be celebrating its 40th year in July making this years focus figure a perfect match. Karen Montanaro will kick off this year’s festival on Thursday July 7th with a special performance honoring Tony and his influence on her work. Leland Faulkner, co- director of the documentary, “Tony Montanaro: The Miracle of Inspiration”, will be showing the film before Karen’s performance. Location to be announced.   

While local residents are shoveling snow and trying to stay warm, arts Festival committee members are busy planning for the 44th annual Norway Arts Festival, July 7- 9th, 2011. Busy as honey bees committee members have already accomplished many important tasks. The Town of Norway, board of selectman has approved the Mass Gathering Permit and the closure of Main Street again this year, as part of a safety initiative proposed by the NAF committee. The street closure will allow festival goers more space to walk and enjoy all that this year’s festival has to offer. Main Street will be closed for the Sidewalk Art show on July 9th from 7 am to 5 pm allowing an extra hour before and after the show for the safety of the artists setting up their booths.

The Norway Arts Festival is sponsored by two local non-profit agencies, Norway Downtown and the Western Maine Art Group. The NAF provides three days of free events with the Sidewalk Art Show and festival always the second Saturday in July. For more info visit
