Community Kitchen Update

OXFORD COUNTY: The Community Kitchen project, located at The Progress Center (TPC) in Norway, is currently in the bidding process.  Sealed bids will be opened on January 18th at 3:00 PM at TPC.
This project is largely funded by a Community Development Block Grant and a USDA Rural Development Grant. In addition, the project has had generous local support from businesses in the Oxford Hills Community and private foundations.  The project consists of approximately 1500 square feet of alterations to part of the existing main building at the 35 Cottage Street location.   Changes include the conversion of a residential kitchen, small dining area, and offices to a commercial kitchen and common dining area.  It is hoped that the work should take no more than five or six months to finish.
When complete, The Progress Center will be relocating the bi-monthly community dinners now served at a local church to the newly renovated kitchen and dining area.  With the meals being served at TPC, it is expected that the Community Dinners will be served three times a week instead of the current twice monthly meals.  These meals are prepared by staff and individuals supported by TPC and served with additional help from community volunteers.
The kitchen will be available to farmers and other entrepreneurs during times when not otherwise in use.  The availability of a licensed commercial kitchen will help the agricultural community create new income and products for market as well as fostering new entrepreneur opportunities thus adding much needed economic growth to our area.
