It all began when she had a CT scan for something else and it showed a nodule or lump on her thyroid. Then she had a fine needle aspiration biopsy, which came back suspicious for papillary cancer, the most common type of thyroid cancer.

Police chief in town of Paris charged with drunk driving


Chief Michael Madden, 50, of Harrison was pulled over by a Cumberland County sheriff's deputy on Wiley Road just after midnight last Friday.

Police said Madden was pulled over for "erratic operation" and given a field sobriety test, which he failed.

Police would not release the results of the blood alcohol test until after Madden's scheduled arraignment on Jan. 20.

Madden was taken to the Bridgton Police Department where he was released on bail.

Madden was driving his personal vehicle and had no passengers. It is not clear where he was coming from or headed to. Police said he was cooperative during the stop.

Firefighters battled a massive blaze in Otisfield Sunday night.


OTISFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It took firefighters from 12 towns about three hours to knock down flames that tore through a 2-family farmhouse in Otisfield Sunday night.

The call came in just before 5:30 p.m. The Otisfield Fire Department said no one was home at the time and there were no injuries, but the blaze destroyed the home along Route 121.

The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
